Gynura procumbens is a leafy plant native to South-East Asia, where it has a long history of traditional use — it's sometimes called "longevity spinach" and is literally eaten as a vegetable in parts of Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. That food heritage tells you something important before any lab work does: this is a plant with an exceptionally gentle relationship with the human body.
What drew us to it as formulators is its chemistry. Gynura leaves are naturally rich in plant phenolics and flavonoids — the family of molecules plants make to protect themselves from environmental stress, particularly UV and oxidation. In skincare, phenolic-rich botanicals are prized as antioxidants: they help skin feel resilient against the everyday environmental stressors (sun, wind, pollution) that leave it looking dull and feeling depleted.
Why it suits reactive skin specifically
